John J Ramwell FRGS MRIN BCU Level 5
Coach (Sea and Inland)
Hi and welcome to my web site. For over forty years
I managed and edited Ocean Kayaker, the newsletter of the INTERNATIONAL SEA
KAYAKING ASSOCIATION. Sadly I retired from this role and the Newsletter
currently continues under the umbrella of CANOEIST MAGAZINE (http://www.canoeist.co.uk)
Now I act
as a consultant to organisations taking young people on kayaking expeditions
around the world. Whether it is logistics, procurement, access, distribution,
health & safety, risk assessment, leadership, coaching…….then I
can help and advise.
I have worked for Raleigh International (http://www.RaleighInternational.org
) both as a sea kayaking leader and as their water safety consultant. Raleigh
International is a charity committed to the personal growth and development of
young people from all nationalities and backgrounds, including disadvantaged
and "at risk". Founded in 1984 their overseas and UK programmes are designed to help young people develop skills
and self-confidence in a fun and challenging environment beyond the classroom
and workplace.
I have also led expeditions for BSES Expeditions (http://www.bses.org.uk)
both as sea kayaking leader and as chief leader since 1981. Their aim is “To provide young people with an intense and lasting
experience of self-discovery in a demanding and natural wilderness
environment.”
The
latest edition of my book “Sea Kayak Touring - a Manual for Sea
Kayakers”
now in its fifth edition remains unpublished but is available as a home
produced publication at £20.00 (p&p incl)

During the summer months I am based in Newfoundland,
Canada and for the remainder
of each year am based in the United
Kingdom.
